LOGAN – The Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre will continue this week with a highlight coming Wednesday, July 19. It will be a special tribute to Oscar, Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning lyricist Sheldon Harnick.
Julie Hollist-Terrell, executive director of the Cache Valley Visitor’s Bureau, said Harnick wrote the Festival’s Rex, which stands for King Henry the 8th. She said his career includes songs from Fidler on the Roof, She Loves Me and others.
“He’s over 90 years old and has won Tony Awards, had a street named after him in New York,” Hollist-Terrell said. “He wrote the (Rex) story with Richard Rodgers, who wrote the music. This guy is kind of the last of the living legends of Broadway.”
She said the tribute will start Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Ellen Eccles Theatre.
