Layton woman dies in motorcycle accident in Deweyville

A 47-year-old Layton woman died after a motorcycle accident in Deweyville. Heidi Thomas was transported to Bear River Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead Saturday night.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers report Thomas was the passenger on a black Harley Davidson, driven by her husband, 49-year-old Brett Thomas. They were allegedly traveling southbound on SR-38 around 6:15 p.m.

At the intersection with SR-102, a maroon Ford Taurus attempted to make a left hand turn, pulling in front of the motorcycle. The bike crashed into the right front corner of the car, throwing both riders into the car and onto the roadway.

Heidi Thomas suffered a severe head injury. Brett Thomas was also initially transported by ambulance to Bear River Valley Hospital. He was later flown by helicopter to McKay Dee Hospital, where he is in critical condition. Both were allegedly wearing helmets but not full head helmets.

Troopers said both the driver and passenger of the Taurus suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and released.

The Intersection was blocked for approximately two-hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers report the accident is still under investigation and charges may be pending.
