Local Marine Corps League Auxiliary looks out for local vets

For the last seven years members of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary have been meeting together monthly and Auxiliary member Betty Ann Buist says the women have something important in common: each has a family member who served or are now serving as a Marine.

Buist says she was asked by the state chapter to organize a local group in Cache Valley who were willing to be involved with area veterans and their families, and to be aware of their needs.

“They might need some help with electricity bills, gas bills, maybe some food,” Buist explains. “We’ve helped out with some housing. We have had one family where they lost their Marine and we helped them.

“They were going to move from the valley here back to Carolina. We helped them with some money to move back.”

Buist says the Auxiliary has booths at car shows, at the county fair and other places with a good turnout because it always helps with donations.

The Auxiliary teams up with the Marine Corps League and Toys for Tots each year and last Christmas more than 2,000 children were helped through donations of coats, clothing and food to families in need.

Buist says the group is always looking for volunteers and the Auxiliary meets on the second Thursday of every month at Bridgerland Technology College.
