Cache County Democrats and USU Democrats joined forces Thursday for a rally on the Utah State University Quad supporting DACA and immigrant rights. DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and just last week Attorney General Jeff Sessions made an announcement that immigrants protected from deportation by the program would only have until October 5th to reapply for protected status.
Danny Beus, Cache County Democratic Party Chairman, said he was pleased with those who showed up to show they are willing to stand and fight for their Latino brothers and sisters. Beus said they fear deportation even though they have lived in this country all their lives.
“The most important thing is action,” said Beus. “A rally is great, but it’s about calling your representatives, it’s about voting people out that don’t support the same ideals that we support. So hopefully through this rally we can ignite some of that action.”
Because he is a Latino himself, Beus said this issue is very dear to his heart. He said those who really care about this country know that deporting the so-called “dreamers” would not be in the country’s best interest.
