LOGAN — A 19-year-old Logan man remains in jail while he and his attorney consider whether or not they wish to have a preliminary hearing held. Jesus Diaz-Orozco and two others are accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Orozco appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He is charged with two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of rape, all first-degree felonies, along with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree felony and three misdemeanors for drug possession.
Cache County Sheriff’s deputies allege that Orozco and Lemuel Del-Valle-Morales sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl back in June. Orozco then raped the girl again in July. The suspects reportedly knew the victim prior to the assaults.
During Tuesday’s hearing, public defender Mike McGinnis asked the court for a couple weeks, so he could review evidence in the case. Judge Brian Cannell ordered the hearing to be postponed until November 7. Orozco remains in jail on $250,000 bail.
Prosecutors have charged the second suspect, Morales, with one count of sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree felony. The 24-year-old is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on November 8, where a judge will determine if there is substantial evidence to bind him over for trial. He is currently out on bail.
The third suspect, Eva Flores has been charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, a third-degree felony. Prosecutors allege that the 18-year-old woman knowingly encouraged the victim to have sex with the two men. She is scheduled to appear again in court November 7. She has also been released after posting bail.
