It’s the Weekend – 10/26/17

It’s a Halloween weekend, which means there is a lot to see and do around Cache Valley. Whether you’re in the mood for a Halloween-related event, the theater, or a sporting event there’s something for everyone this weekend.

<strong>Halloween and Community Events</strong>

<a href=”” target=”_blank”>Haunted Hyde Park Hollow and Half-Pint Hollow</a> is Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Bring a can of food for the Cache Community Food Pantry for a dollar off admission at the Hyde Park City Building.

<a href=”” target=”_blank”>United Way Family Fun Night</a> is at the Haunted Slopes of Cherry Peak. Food, festivities and fun Thursday from 7:30-10 p.m.

<a href=”” target=”_blank”>HOSA Haunted Hollows</a>, a spook alley and children’s carnival, is taking place at Sky View High School Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. A large portion of the proceeds will be donated to NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Zootah at Willow Park and Logan Regional Hospital present <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Boo at the Zoo</a> Friday and Saturday afternoon. There will be games, activities and animal interactions throughout the day.

T<a href=”” target=”_blank”>unnel Tales</a> will be shared by the Cache Valley Storytelling Institute this Friday, Saturday and next Monday. Spine-chilling stories will be shared in the tunnels leading to Merlin Olsen Central Park beginning at 9 p.m. Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

<a href=”” target=”_blank”>TEDx at USU</a> is this week and it’s bigger than ever. It’s moved to the new Daines Concert Hall at Utah State to accommodate even more people. Presentations, performances, and special talks begin at 6 p.m. Friday.

<a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>Trick or Treat Street</a> is happening at the Smithfield Rec Center Friday at 6 p.m. 30 businesses have sponsored doors for the children to visit inside the building.

One of the biggest USU parties of the year is <a href=”” target=”_blank”>The Howl</a>, Friday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. If you don’t already have tickets, don’t plan on going. It’s already sold out.

Saturday morning at 11 a.m., engineering students from across Utah compete to see who can <a href=”” target=”_blank”>hurl their ripening jack-o-lanterns</a> the farthest at Elk Ridge Park in North Logan.

From pumpkin hurling, to pumpkin dropping. Leading Edge Aviation at Logan-Cache Airport will be hosting their annual <a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>pumpkin drop contest</a> Saturday morning. Drop a pumpkin from your own plane or ride along in theirs and try your best to hit the target. Register at the airport by 9:30 a.m.

A giant <a href=”″ target=”_blank”>Trunk-or-Treat</a> is taking place Saturday from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Young Auto Mall. The auto dealer celebrates the grand opening of its new Honda dealership and will have dozens of organizations and vendors handing out candy.

Zombies and Zombie Hunters will be prowling the streets of Downtown Logan during the 7th annual <a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>Zombie Walk</a>. Gather at the corner of Church Street and Federal Avenue at 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to bring one or more non-perishable food item for the Cache Community Food Pantry.

Utah Patients Coalition is hosting a free Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 83 West Main Street in Hyrum. Bounce houses will also be available for the kids. SSI is also hosting a <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Trunk-or-Treat</a> Saturday from 6-7 p.m. at 80 West Golf Course Road in Logan.

Come dressed in your best costume and you could win prizes at the <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Whispering Canyons Halloween fundraiser</a> on Saturday from 5-9 p.m. located at 1151 S. 1000 West in Logan. There will be food, fun, activities, horse rides and dance. 

On Halloween, take the kids to Historic Downtown Logan for the <a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>Treat Walk</a> from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Whittier Community Center will be celebrating its 88th annual <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Halloween Festival</a> from 3-6 p.m. New Life Fellowship Church is also hosting a <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Trunk-or-Treat</a> in their church parking lot at 2045 North 800 West. There will be a large inflatable slide, hot chocolate, pumpkin decorating and more from 5-7 p.m.


<a href=”” target=”_blank”>Robot Days and Family Fun Run</a> is on Saturday morning. Race a robot and enjoy a pancake breakfast with a donation of Legos. The Legos are for 14 elementary schools in Guatemala. The events all take place at Autonomous Solutions in Mendon at 9 a.m.

Run in honor of someone who has had or currently has cancer at the Cache Valley for Hope <a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>Run for the Cure</a> at the Sports Academy in Logan. The race begins at 9 a.m. Saturday

The 42nd Annual <a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>First Dam Scary Run</a> will be Saturday, beginning at Merlin Olsen Park. Run the classic 5k or 10k and bring your kids along for the free kids course in the park. Registration begins at 9, races begin at 10.


Mountain Crest High School Drama presents <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”</a> this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and next Monday.

The Cache Theatre Company presents the Cache Valley premier of <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Jekyll and Hyde</a>. Murder and chaos are pitted against love and virtue in this musical. Performances are 7:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday at the Ellen Eccles Theatre, next Monday, and then next weekend again.


<a href=”” target=”_blank”>USU volleyball</a> hosts New Mexico Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Wayne Estes Center. <a href=”” target=”_blank”>USU soccer</a> hosts Boise State Friday at 3 p.m. on Chuck and Gloria Bell Field.

High School football playoffs begin on Friday: Ridgeline at Spanish Fork at 4 p.m. (heard on <a href=”″ target=”_blank”>104.5 The Ranch</a> in Cache County); Bear River at Orem at 4 p.m. (heard on <a href=”″ target=”_blank”>104.9 The Ranch</a> in Box Elder County); Sky View vs Mountain View at 5 p.m. (heard on <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Lite FM 103.3 / 1390 AM</a>, and; and, Mountain Crest vs Salem Hills at 7 p.m. (heard on <a href=”” target=”_blank”>KVNU 610 AM/102.1 FM</a>, and the KVNU mobile app).

<a href=”;sections=all&amp;date=today” target=”_blank”>USU volleyball</a> plays UNLV Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Wayne Estes Center. And later that day, <a href=”” target=”_blank”>USU football</a> plays conference rival Boise St at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
