LOGAN — A 51-year-old Logan man has admitted to molesting two girls years ago. Troy B. Richman will remain in jail without bail until he is sentenced next month.
Richman appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon, accepting a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to two charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and one count of forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony.
Prosecutor Jacob Gordon told the court, Richman molested a young girl multiple times in September 1997. The girl was under 13-years-old old at the time of the abuse. Around September 2007, he molested another girl who was also under 13-years-old at the time. In both cases, the victims knew Richman.
Gordon said there were a lot of other things that happened between Richman and the two girls but he didn’t want to discuss them. He asked the court for a separate sentencing date, when he will likely talk about the abuses in further details.
Defense attorney Bryan Galloway said as part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the remaining 13 charges against Richman.
Galloway explained that each of the charges Richman pleaded guilty to, carry a sentence of up to 15-years in prison. He told the court, he and Gordon are expected to debate during sentencing, whether the sentences should be served consecutively or concurrently.
Richman spoke only briefly, answering that he understood the penalties for each of the charges and saying he was guilty. He was arrested in September and later waived his right to a preliminary hearing, as attorneys worked toward the plea agreement.
Judge Kevin Allen scheduled sentencing for December 19 and ordered a presentence report done by probation officers, about Richman’s criminal history.
Tuesday’s plea deal keeps both victims from having to testify about the abuse during a trial.
