8 top wow moments of 2017 according to The Red Bulletin

(BPT) – 2017 has been a year filled with twists and turns. But what about those ones beyond the ordinary? The celebrities who admitted their embarrassing moments, the athletes who reached new heights and ordinary folk who pushed boundaries. Here are the top 8 stories from leading magazine <em><a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>The Red Bulletin</a></em> that gave us the biggest wow moments of 2017.

<strong>1. Cliff diving can literally scare the sh*t out of you</strong>

“It doesn’t matter how hard you squeeze, water is going right in there,” <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/inside-red-bull-cliff-diving” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>explained</a> champion cliff diver David Colturi. “And in this particular instance, my Speedo ripped off as well … and I went from cloud nine and super confident to covered in blood and poop and I’m like … what did I get myself into?”

<strong>2. Similar to gold diggers, Jean-Claude Van Damme got his big break by targeting rich men</strong>

Van Damme <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/Jean-claude-van-damme-the-real-damme-deal” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>put</a> his headshot on expensive cars: “I looked for all the Rolls or Ferraris or Porsches, because I thought they might belong to big stars or big producers. On the back of the photo I wrote something like “If you need any sort of actor who can kick, jump and has a French accent, please call me. This is my number.” And because of that, I was hired in Predator and also in a movie called No Retreat, No Surrender.”

<strong>3. Arnold Schwarzenegger is going all in as an eco-warrior</strong>

“Regarding the environment, I just wish Trump would copy me. He wouldn’t even have to thank me,” <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/schwarzenegger-eco-warrior” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>said</a> Schwarzenegger. “I’m a fanatic about eco-friendly technology. I own four Hummers — one is biodiesel, one is hydrogen, which generates no pollution at all, and I’m planning on getting an electric engine installed in the third one. It will be the first Hummer with an electric engine.”

<strong>4. Mike Horn became the first person ever to complete a solo, unsupported trip across Antarctica</strong>

“Pole2Pole is simply everything I’ve done in my life as an explorer, in one expedition. I always wanted to cross Antarctica solo and without support,” <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/meet-mike-horn-the-greatest-living-explorer-0″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>said</a> Horn. “It’s that unknown that we’re all afraid of. And it’s the unknown that motivates me.”

<strong>5. Surfer Justine Dupont can hold her breath underwater for more than 4 minutes while diving 60 feet below the water</strong>

“At first, I had difficulty letting go,” <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/freediving-into-the-deep-blue” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>said</a> Dupont, “but now I feel totally liberated. I used to think too much about the exercise itself and whether the time I spent in the water was long enough to prepare me for the conditions in the sea at Nazare or at Belharra in the Basque Country.”

<strong>6. Baywatch star Ilfenesh Hadera’s “most excruciatingly embarrassing moment”</strong>

Ilfenesh <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/ilfenesh-hadera-beauty-and-the-beach” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>revealed</a>: “I was in the YMCA swim team before starting high school. At my final meet, I was standing on the starting block, and I just fell into the water before the whistle blew. It was the most excruciatingly embarrassing moment. I wanted to stay at the bottom [of the pool]. It was horrible.”

<strong>7. Kai Lenny hints at challenging for the World Surf League</strong>

“I think it’s every pro surfer’s dream to compete on the world tour,” <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/kai-lenny-is-the-best-at-board-sports” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>admitted</a> Lenny. “But I’m lucky I get to do that on the big-wave circuit, and every year I re-evaluate what I’m gonna do and make a new plan.”

<strong>8. U.S Women’s Hockey is going for “gold or bust” at the Winter Games</strong>

Captain Hilary Knight <a href=”https://www.redbull.com/us-en/theredbulletin/hilary-knight-fights-for-gender-equality” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>explained</a>: “We’re going for gold. We’ve gone for gold in the past, but it’s different this time. There’s a different energy and feeling in the room. It’s gold or bust. You’re going to see a hockey team like you’ve never seen one before.”
