Motorcycle crash kills two boys and sends another to the hospital

A motorcycle accident Sunday night in Box Elder County killed two teenage boys and sent a third one to the hospital. The crash was reported just before 9 p.m. in Corrine.

Box Elder County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dale Ward said the 14 and 15-year-old boys were each driving a dirt bike between two cornfields. A 16-year-old was also a passenger on one of the bikes.

Deputies report the two bikes were traveling in opposite directions on the same road, when they collided head on. All three boys were ejected.

Ward said the 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old was treated by paramedics and stabilized. He was flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center but died shortly after arrival.

The 16-year-old passenger was flown to Ogden Regional Medical Center and was later transported to the University Hospital in Salt Lake. He was listed in stable condition before being transferred.

Deputies believe that both drivers were wearing helmets and there was no evidence of impairment. The bikes were not equipped with any lights.

The boy’s identities have not been released, pending notification of family. It appears that they were related. Their parents and grandparents were at the scene of the accident when deputies arrived.

The crash remains under investigation.
