Koby McEwen Named Mountain West Player of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State sophomore guard Koby McEwen has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week. The award is the first conference weekly award for McEwen this season and comes on the heels of being named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week.

McEwen led the Aggies to a pair of Mountain West victories this week, including an 81-79 overtime win over Fresno State and an 85-78 win on the road at UNLV.

Against the Bulldogs, McEwen tied a career high with 28 points and hit the front end of a one-and-one at the free throw line with less than one second in regulation to send the game into overtime. The free throw capped a 10-point run by the Aggies over the final 4:12 of regulation. During the game, McEwen shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the floor, 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from behind the 3-point line and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) at the free throw line and added three assists, two rebounds and one steal in a career-high 41 minutes.

Against the Runnin’ Rebels, McEwen led the Aggies with 21 points and shot a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. McEwen’s 3-point bucket with less than a minute in the game put Utah State up 82-78 with 52 seconds to play and a pair of free throws with 17 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the Aggies. McEwen also added four rebounds and one assist against UNLV.

For the week, McEwen averaged 24.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the floor, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from behind the 3-point line and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) at the free throw line.

Utah State continues its Mountain West slate this week, hosting Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan. 10, and then travels to Reno, Nev., on Saturday, Jan. 13, facing Nevada.
