LOGAN — A 19-year-old Montana man has been sent to jail for his involvement in a string of home burglaries in North Logan and Hyde Park last summer. Guy Hales was ordered to serve 210-days behind bars, complete several therapy programs, and apologize to the victims.

Hales was sentenced in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and theft, all second-degree felonies, and two counts of unlawful use of a credit card, a third-degree felony.

Hales and 18-year-old Christian A. Jensen were accused of breaking into the garages of several residences. Once inside, they reportedly stole items from the garage and inside several vehicles. The two men were seen on camera carrying a handgun during the robberies. They also stole a firearm from one of the homes.

In August, both men turned themselves into police, after detectives released video footage, showing the men entering one of the residences.

Hales spoke only briefly during Tuesday’s court appearance. He told Judge Brian Cannell, he was sorry and wanted to apologize to the people he had affected.

Public defender, Bryan Galloway said this was a huge wake-up-call in Hales’ life. He said his client has expressed sorrow multiple times for what he had done and cooperated with investigators.

Judge Cannell said he was hopeful that Hales would turn his life around. He ordered the defendant to get a job or go to school as part of probation, after being released from jail. “You still have the opportunity to go forward and contribute to society,” expressed Judge Cannell.

Jensen is scheduled to appear again in court March 14 for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors have filed 22 charges against him including five counts of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony. He is currently out of jail on bail.
