It’s the Weekend – Jan. 11, 2018

There’s a big celebration of the arts in downtown Logan, a Smoke Pole Biathlon and several events to welcome USU students back to campus this weekend.

At the beautiful Ellen Eccles Theatre, home of the Cache Valley Center for the Arts, they will be hosting a <a href=”” target=”_blank”>25th anniversary weekend extravaganza</a>. It begins Friday with a <a href=”” target=”_blank”>ribbon cutting at 1 p.m.</a> to celebrate the recent designation of an historic theater district in downtown Logan. 

On Saturday, there will be free, <a href=”” target=”_blank”>live music and open house</a> at the Thatcher Young Mansion and Bullen Center from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; <a href=”” target=”_blank”>free art classes</a> from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; historic theater district tours from 12-2 p.m.; a gala dinner from 5:30-7 p.m.; then, the Silver Anniversary Celebration in the Eccles Theatre is from 7:30-9 p.m. featuring the talents of American Festival Chorus and Orchestra, Cache Theatre Company, Cache Valley Civic Ballet, Music Theatre West, Pickleville Playhouse, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, and Valley Dance Ensemble.

<a href=”” target=”_blank”>Welcome Week</a> continues at Utah State University as the new semester has gotten underway this week. Thursday night from 7-10 p.m. is Moonlight and Music in the Taggart Student Center Hub. And Friday is Free Ice Skating at the Eccles Ice Center from 7-9 p.m.

On Friday, <a href=”” target=”_blank”>Cache Community Connections</a> is hosting <a href=”” target=”_blank”>“We have a Dream for Cache Valley”</a>. It’s an inter-faith event celebrating the life and message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The celebration of diversity begins at 7 p.m. Friday evening in the Logan Tabernacle.

Have you ever fired a smoke pole? You might want to participate in <a href=”″ target=”_blank”>Willy Wapiti’s 3rd Annual Smoke Pole Biathlon</a> Saturday at Hardware Ranch. Mountain Men test their speed and accuracy on the snowshoeing muzzleloader course beginning at 10 a.m.

Plus, if you’ve never fired a muzzleloader but always wanted to, Willow Creek Free Trappers’ mountain men will teach you how to fire one of those smoke poles.

On Sunday, join City of Logan poet laureate Star Coulbrooke along with local poets Margaret Pettis and Heidi Blankenship for a <a href=”;theater” target=”_blank”>night of poetry readings</a>, discussion and book signings at the Bluebird Restaurant. <a href=”” target=”_blank”>“Three Valley Poets”</a> begins at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be available.
