LOGAN — A 30-year-old Nibley man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a child. Carlos Pimentel was booked Tuesday night into the Cache County Jail. He was being held on $100,000 bail.
The crimes allegedly occurred in the end of December.
Thursday afternoon, Pimentel appeared in 1st District Court by video from jail. Earlier in the day, state attorneys charged him with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony and a class B misdemeanor.
Judge Brian Cannell read the charges to Pimentel, and explained they carry a possible punishment of up to life in prison. He ordered the suspect to appear again in court January 22.
Pimentel spoke only briefly during the video arraignment, giving his name and birthday to the court.
After speaking with state attorney Barbara Lachmar, Judge Cannell agreed to lower Pimentel’s bail from $100,000 to $50,000. He ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim though, if he is able to post bail.
