Highway crash in south Logan sends man to the hospital

LOGAN — A two vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon sent one man to the hospital with severe injuries and partially blocked traffic along US-89/91 for an hour. The crash occurred just after 1:00 p.m. near 2300 South.

Logan City Police Lt. Bret Randall said a man, driving a black Dodge pickup, turned left onto the highway and was in the median, waiting to merge with southbound traffic. While he waited for a break, another man who was travelling northbound, driving an Isuzu, drifted into the median and struck the truck head-on.

“The driver of the Isuzu was injured at the scene,” explained Randall. “He had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and was transported to Logan Regional Hospital, where he is being treated.”

The driver of the truck was not injured and no other vehicles were involved.

Randall said the driver of the Isuzu had traumatic injuries and officers are not sure yet what led up to the crash.

“The investigation is still ongoing as to why he left the northbound travel lane and went into the median.”

Officers and Utah Highway Patrol troopers partially diverted traffic for an hour, while they investigated and cleared the crash.
