LOGAN — A judge has sentenced a 43-year-old man to jail for repeatedly harassing two women. Ryan R. Carter was ordered to serve 100-days but given credit for the 75 he has already served, after being arrested last year.
Carter appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. The Ogden man previously pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking, a third-degree felony.
Defense attorney Shannon Demler told the court, his client’s actions were an attempt to rekindle a relationship but were obviously inappropriate. He noted that Cater did not physically threaten the victims and in one case sent them flowers.
State attorney Jacob Gordon said the defendant knew he wasn’t supposed to contact the women and that his actions were unwanted. He told the court, he didn’t think Carter had learned his lesson.
Cater told Judge Brian Cannell he was sorry for his actions. He said, he was acting because of a broken heart.
Judge Cannell ordered Carter to serve 25 more days in jail, complete 40-hours of community service, and undergo counseling and probation. He pleaded with the defendant to change his behavior, or face a harsher penalty next time.
