TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Some of the high school students who traveled to Florida’s state capital for protests after last week’s mass shooting committed what may have been their young movement’s first act of civil disobedience. The small group associated with the Kol Tikvah synagogue in Parkland interrupted a legislative hearing and lay down and played dead in front of the governor’s Capitol office on Wednesday. Lawmakers allowed them to tell them stories filled with anger, fear and pain.

UNDATED (AP) — In the aftermath of yet another mass school shooting, President Donald Trump says that if one of the victims, a football coach, had been armed “he would have shot and that would have been the end of it.” Revisiting an idea he endorsed in his campaign, Trump’s comments in favor of allowing teachers to be armed come as lawmakers in several states are wrestling with the idea, including in Florida, where the 17 most recent victims are being mourned. Teachers and the public are divided on the issue.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Republican Sen. Marco Rubio was put on the defensive Wednesday by angry students, teachers and parents who are demanding stronger gun-control measures after a school shooting that killed 17 people at a Florida high school. One of those confronting Rubio at a CNN’s “Stand Up” town hall Wednesday night was Fred Guttenberg, whose 14-year-old daughter Jaime Guttenberg was killed on Feb. 14 with 16 others.

GANGNEUNG, South Korea (AP) — The Americans’ gold medal drought in women’s hockey is over. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored in the sixth round of a shootout against Canada to win 3-2. Twenty years after taking gold when this sport debuted in 1998 at Nagano, the United States snapped Canada’s streak of four straight Olympic golds.

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea (AP) — Michelle Gisin of Switzerland has won the women’s Alpine combined with an aggressive slalom run to edge American Mikaela Shiffrin at the Pyeongchang Olympics. Lindsey Vonn, the leader after the downhill portion, made a mistake early in the slalom Thursday and didn’t finish in what’s likely her final Winter Games.
