LEWIS GILBERT DIES, DIRECTED 3 BOND FILMS

LONDON (AP) — During his long career, Lewis Gilbert, directed nearly three dozen films. But the ones he is likely to best be remembered for — are the three he did in the James Bond series. Gilbert has died; producers of the Bond franchise are announcing his death, which a Bond fan site says occurred Friday. Gilbert directed three of the Bond thrillers: “You Only Live Twice,” ”The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker.” In a 2010 BBC interview, he said whenever he talked about his movies, people were not interested until he mentioned doing Bond films. He says after that, “they practically genuflect.” Lewis Gilbert was 97.

OSCARS – PRESENTERS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — More Oscar presenters have been announced. Among those newly named to announce winners and hand out trophies are Sandra Bullock, Dave Chappelle, Christopher Walken, Rita Moreno and Helen Mirren. Others already on the list were Jane Fonda, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster and Ashley Judd — as well as Chadwick Boseman, Mark Hamill, Gal Gadot and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Oscars are Sunday in Los Angeles.

KEVIN SPACEY FOUNDATION SHUTTING DOWN

LONDON (AP) — The British foundation Kevin Spacey had set up is being shut down. The foundation says with the number sexual harassment allegations lodged against the Oscar-winning actor, the work of the Kevin Spacey Foundation “is no longer viable.” The foundation helped identify young artists and give them with training and resources as they developed careers. Spacey once served as artistic director at the Old Vic theater, which says it received 20 claims of inappropriate behavior by Spacey. And police in London are investigating three allegations of sexual assault against the ousted star of the Netflix series “House of Cards.”

BILL COSBY’S DAUGHTER DIES

BOSTON (AP) — Even as he faces the personal tragedy of losing a second child to death, Bill Cosby is also dealing with the criminal charges that loom over his head. The comedian’s daughter Ensa died over the weekend of kidney disease. And on Monday, Cosby is due in court for a hearing to determine how many women who accuse him of drugging and molesting them will be allowed to testify at his upcoming retrial. It’s unclear whether Cosby will waive his right to attend the hearing — or ask that it be delayed. The retrial is set for next month.

JAMES DEAN JACKET UP FOR SALE

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Would you pay more than a half million dollars for a used windbreaker jacket? One that’s more than a half century old at that? For some people the answer is “sure” — but that’s because the garment in question was the cherry-red one worn by actor James Dean in “Rebel Without A Cause.” The jacket goes up for auction this week in Florida. And it’s expected to fetch as much as $600,000. The auction offers fans of Dean the chance to own something linked to the actor, who died at age 24 — about a month before the iconic movie premiered.

She faces a possible felony for an injury authorities say she inflicted on her boyfriend. And the actress is also charged with roughing up three sheriff’s deputies who came a-calling on the domestic tiff.

It has launched a 24-hour streaming sports network that will carry news, highlights and analysis of the games so many love to watch. SRIDEVI DEATH DETERMINED TO BE DROWNING

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have closed their investigation into the death of Bollywood star Sridevi. They have determined she accidentally drowned in a hotel bathtub after losing consciousness. Officials also say the autopsy revealed the Indian actress had alcohol in her system. Sridevi was 54. Today, several Bollywood stars and a large contingent of fans came to the airport to pay their respects as her body arrived home.
