Incarnate Word beats Houston Baptist 83-71

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Shawn Johnson scored 28 points and grabbed a career-best 17 rebounds and Incarnate Word beat Houston Baptist 83-71 on Wednesday night.

Keaton Hervey added 15 points with four rebounds and Charles Brown III chipped in 11 points for the Cardinals (7-20, 2-15 Southland Conference) who end their season hosting Abilene Christian on Saturday.

Incarnate Word trailed 41-37 at the break but Johnson, Hervey and Sam Burmeister contributed to a 13-0 run early in the second half that helped the Cardinals to go ahead 58-52 with 12:04 to play. Brown hit a jumper, a 3-pointers and a layup back-to-back to push it to 71-62 with 5:44 left.

Ian DuBose and Braxton Bonds scored 16 points apiece for the Huskies (6-24, 2-15) who have lost four straight. DuBose led the team with eight rebounds.
