She claimed the title before making her final run in a giant slalom today in Germany, when her only remaining rival failed to finish in the top two. Shiffrin is the second American female skier to win multiple overall titles. Lindsey Vonn won the sport’s most coveted prize four times.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — Serena Williams has won her first match in her comeback at the BNP Paribas (PEHR’-ih-buhs) Open after a 14-month layoff for the birth of her first child. The 23-time major winner defeated Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan 7-5, 6-3 in the first round last night.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods is one of just 27 players to break par yesterday in a swirling wind at the Valspar Championship in Florida. Woods made five birdies and shot 70. It was the first time he broke par in the opening round of a PGA Tour event since a 64 in the 2015 Wyndham Championship. Canadian rookie Corey Conners is the leader with a 4-under 67, one shot ahead of Nick Watney, Whee Kim and Kelly Kraft.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the Denver Broncos have agreed to trade star cornerback Aqib Talib to the Los Angeles Rams. The person says the Rams will send Denver a mid-round pick, believed to be a fifth-rounder. In Los Angeles, Talib will reunite with Wade Phillips, who was his defensive coordinator in Denver. He’ll play alongside fellow star cornerback Marcus Peters, whom the Rams are acquiring from Kansas City.

UNDATED (AP) — Derrick Rose has signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the remainder of the season. The move reunites Rose and Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau (THIH’-buh-doh), who were together in Chicago. Rose appeared in only 16 games for Cleveland earlier this season, before being traded to Utah and then let go. He says he’s eager for the opportunity.
