ROSE McGOWAN FAILS TO GET DRUG CHARGE DISMISSED
LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — A judge has refused actress Rose McGowan’s request to dismiss a drug-possession charge against her because prosecutors say they have new evidence. Authorities say cocaine was found in a wallet she left behind on a flight to Washington in January 2017. McGowan’s lawyers say more than five hours had passed by the time the wallet was found by a cleaning crew and the drugs could have been planted. They argue it could be part of a smear campaign brought on by Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein after she accused him of sexual assault. Prosecutors declined to say what the additional evidence is.
JUELZ SANTANA SURRENDERS AFTER AIRPORT INCIDENT
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Rapper Juelz Santana has turned himself in after a loaded gun and his ID were found in a carry-on bag at a security checkpoint at Newark’s airport on Friday. Authorities say Santana surrendered to Port Authority Police early today. Authorities say Santana ran when the .38-caliber handgun was found as the bag went through X-ray. He faces two weapons charges.
SUGE KNIGHT’S ATTORNEY REMOVED FROM CASE
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge has dismissed an attorney working on the murder case for Death Row Records co-founder Suge (SHUG) Knight. Los Angeles County Judge Ronald S. Coen ruled Thaddeus Culpepper may no longer be part of Knight’s defense team. Culpepper and another attorney on Knight’s defense, Matthew Fletcher, were indicted a week ago on charges of conspiring to influence potential witnesses in Knight’s case. Both deny wrongdoing. Knight has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder after driving over two men in Los Angeles in January 2015. The removal of Culpepper could mean more delays for Knight’s trial, set to begin April 9.

AMERICAN IDOL GETS MORE THAN 10 MILLION VIEWERS
NEW YORK (AP) — The revamped “American Idol” had a strong debut on ABC, reaching more than 10 million viewers and shrugging off Fox’s attempt to blunt the premiere’s impact with its special on O.J. Simpson. The Nielsen company said that the 10.34 million who watched the return of “American Idol” represented ABC’s biggest Sunday night audience with regular series programming since 2012. Fox’s presentation of a 2006 Simpson interview in which he speculated about how he might have killed his former wife was watched by 4.4 million people — an echo of the sensational interest the Simpson case drew two decades ago. There was bad blood when Fox ended “American Idol” two years ago, and the Simpson interview was seen as Fox’s attempt to prevent a fast start for ABC.
KATHY GRIFFIN – COMEBACK
NEW YORK (AP) — Comedian Kathy Griffin is embarking on her comeback. She announced on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” on Friday that she had just booked a couple of shows. One will be at Carnegie Hall in New York, the other at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The new bookings come some nine months after she provoked outrage by posing with a fake severed head that appeared to depict President Donald Trump. The mock beheading photo cost her much of her work.
MEGHAN MARKLE APPEARS WITH QUEEN
LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry’s bride-to-be has made her first public appearance with Queen Elizabeth II. Meghan Markle joined the queen and other senior royals Monday at the Commonwealth Day service at London’s Westminster Abbey. It marked another milestone in Markle’s path to joining the British monarch’s family. The American actress is set to marry Harry on the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19. Harry and Markle were greeted with screams and shouts from some members of the public when they arrived at the venerable abbey. They were joined by Prince William and his wife, Kate, Prince Charles, and other royals.
WENDELL PIERCE – BALTIMORE APARTMENT COMPLEX
BALTIMORE (AP) — Actor Wendell Pierce has announced that the grand opening of an apartment complex will be next month. The Baltimore Sun reports Pierce posted about the opening of the Nelson Kohl Apartments on April 6. Pierce is known for his role as Detective William “Bunk” Moreland on The Wire and for the role of Antoine Batiste on “Treme.”
JUDY GARLAND’S DAUGHTER COLLAPSES
LONDON (AP) — Judy Garland’s daughter is undergoing tests in a London hospital — this after she collapsed backstage at a concert in London. The preliminary diagnosis is that she had a brain tumor. A rep for the singer says Luft’s husband had been concerned that his wife was forgetting lyrics. Luft has also battled breast cancer. But her representative says she is now in remission.
SHERMAN ALEXIE – SEXUAL HARASSMENT
NEW YORK (AP) — The publisher of Sherman Alexie is postponing the paperback release of his latest book. Hachette Book Group had planned to release the paperback of his memoir “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” in April. But Hachette now says the date has been pushed back indefinitely — and that the decision was made by Alexie. The writer acknowledged taking part in sexual harassment. Just last week, he declined a literary honor the American Library Association awarded him for “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,” which came out last year.
