“SEX AND THE CTY STAR” TO RUN FOR N.Y. GOVERNOR

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Nixon’s the one? Cynthia Nixon says she will seek to run for governor of New York State. The star of the TV show “Sex and the City” has taken to Twitter to say she will challenge Gov. Andrew Cuomo (KWOH’-moh) for the Democratic party’s nod in September. Her announcement sets up a race pitting Nixon, an openly gay liberal activist, against Cuomo, a two-term incumbent with a $30 million war chest and possible presidential ambitions. Nixon faces an uphill battle. A poll released today shows Cuomo leading her by 66 percent to 19 percent among registered Democrats.

BOX OFFICE

NEW YORK (AP) — Score it five in a row for “Black Panther” The Ryan Coogler film has topped the box office race for five-straight weeks — a rarity in these days of “flavor of the month” movies. It’s the first time in nearly a decade that a movie has shown that much staying power at the multiplex. The last movie to reel off a set of five wins in a row was “Avatar.” Finishing second was “Tomb Raider.”

MATT DAMON NOT MOVING TO AUSTRALIA: REP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Matt Damon is going nowhere in his life — literally. A publicist for the actor is taming down a report that suggests he’s pulling up stakes and leaving the United States for Australia — because of his opposition to President Donald Trump. A couple of newspaper reports have suggested he was buying a home near his actor pal, Chris Hemsworth — and that Damon was triggered by Trump’s policies. But a rep for Damon says there’s nothing to those stories.

CHARLIZE THERON — GUN VIOLENCE

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Charlize Theron is opposed to the idea of arming teachers to protect students in school. And the South African-born actress is speaking not just as a celebrity — but as a victim of gun violence. She lost her father to a bullet. And she says the idea of using armed teachers as a deterrent to school massacres is “so outrageous.” She spoke at a conference on social policies over the weekend in the United Arab Emirates.

BARBRA STREISAND – SEXUAL HARASSMENT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Barbra Streisand said she’s never suffered a #MeToo moment in her career. And, to hear her tell it, the reason is as clear as the nose on her face. She says she — quoting her here — “wasn’t like those pretty girls with those nice little noses” so nobody messed with her like that. Streisand does say, however, that she felt abused by some members of the news media. During a forum over the weekend in Los Angeles, she cites an interview with Mike Wallace as an example. She says the way he treated her both during and after the interview left her feeling violated.

PITBULL – WATER

NEW YORK (AP) — He’s already an “ambassador” of sorts for his native Florida. Now, Pitbull is upping his ambassadorial game to take on something of more importance: the global water crisis. The organization Clean Water Here says the pop star will be named Clean Water Here Ambassador on March 22 — when he visits the United Nations. He will also receive an award that day for his humanitarian efforts.

STORMY DANIELS’ ATTORNEY SAYS PORN STAR HAS BEEN THREATENED

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An attorney for Stormy Daniels says the porn star has been threatened physically. The lawyer won’t say who is making the threats. But an attorney for President Donald Trump says the threat that Trump’s team is suggesting for Daniels is of a financial nature. Trump’s people say once they tally up all the violations they claim she made on her nondisclosure agreement, she will be out more than $20 million.
