LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan man has been arrested and charged with raping a teenage girl at Benson Marina last week.
Oswaldo A. Vidrio was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, a day after being arrested. Hours earlier, prosecutors filed seven criminal charges against him, including aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony.
Vidrio appeared by video from jail. Judge Thomas Willmore read the charges against him and assigned a public defender to the case.
State attorney Spencer Walsh told the court how Vidrio is suspected of taking a 16-year-old girl to Benson Marina March 21. While there, he raped and then tried to strangle her. He allegedly had a gun with him at the time.
Deputies later found a condom near where the assault took place. It matched several that Vidrio had in his possession when he was arrested. He also reportedly had brass knuckles, shotgun shells and a meth pipe.
Judge Willmore said based on the allegations, Vidrio would be held in jail without bail. He ordered him to appear again in court April 9.
Vidrio along with three other men were arrested in 2008, following a string of burglaries in Smithfield. The four were later charged with breaking into at least 40 homes and a dozen vehicles.
