Fire damages vacant home in Brigham City

Investigators are now trying to determine what caused a fire in Brigham City that significantly damaged a vacant home. The blaze was reported just after 4:00 p.m. Monday, at 125 East Forrest Street.

Brigham City Fire Marshal Michael Young said when fire fighters arrived at the home, they found smoke and flames coming from inside the second-story and roof. Crews battled heavy-lathe and plaster construction, plus several layers of both wood, and asphalt shingles to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters from both Willard and Corinne were called to assist with fighting the fire. The blaze was extinguished 90 minutes later but not before it caused at least $85,000 in damages.

Investigators are working with the Brigham City Police Department to determine the exact cause and nature of the fire.

Young recommends property owners should keep close attention to their properties both occupied and vacant, and secure them from unauthorized entry.

No injuries were sustained during the fire.
