PROVIDENCE – Deputies are investigating a dead body that was discovered Sunday afternoon near Providence Canyon.
Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Locke said a hiker found the deceased individual, east of Sherwood Drive, in the foothills.
“Deputies showed up and confirmed that they did have what appears to be a male individual, deceased, up in some rocks and under a tree,” he explained. “We’re working with the medical examiner’s office for identification right now.”
Search and Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, in a ravine north of Providence Canyon, to recover the body and bring it out of the area.
Locke said investigators are unsure how long the body had been there or the exact cause of death.
“This particular area, on the south facing side of the ravine that goes up there, it’s about probably 50-60 yards out of the bottom, really rocky, really steep. This person was in some rocks under a tree. You had to be right on top of where he was at, to be able to see the person. So it was actually a miracle that he was even found or seen.”
Investigators don’t suspect foul play, and Locke said it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
