Mississippi police officer fired for misconduct after incident with USU basketball recruit

A police officer in Jackson, Miss. was terminated for alleged police brutality. The victim in the incident was a Utah State University basketball recruit.

According to a report by The Clarion-Ledger, a daily newspaper in Jackson, Miss., Officer Vincent Lampkin was recently fired for misconduct after pulling over incoming USU freshman basketball player John Knight III on May 14, handcuffing and assaulting him, then letting him go without explanation.

Photos of Knight show the 19-year-old with injuries to the right side of his face.

The Jackson Police Department held a press conference Wednesday announcing the firing, stating that the city does not tolerate excessive force or allowing acts of injustice, the Clarion-Ledger reported.
