The 51st season of one of Logan’s iconic summer attractions — the Lyric Repertory Company — is a few days away and co-artistic director Dennis Hassan said this season’s four plays have never been produced on the Caine Lyric Theatre stage, which is unusual.
“Last year for our 50th anniversary we did all the favorites and brought everybody back and did a great job with that,” Hassan explained. “So we decided to do all shows we’d never produced before, this year. They’re all really large, kind of fantastical shows.”
Hassan said this season’s troop of actors is one of the best ever.
“It’s interesting, the other co-artistic director, Richie Call, last year went down to Utah (Shakespeare Festival) and was one of the actors down there. So, we have a lot of actors who are from Utah (Shakespeare Festival), some directors, and they’ve been acting across regional theaters across the country. We’re bringing in more equity artists than ever before. So really raising our game.”
The season’s first play, Sense and Sensibility, opens Friday at the Caine Lyric Theatre on Center Street in Historic Downtown Logan. The other productions include “Peter and the Starcatcher”, the musical “Grey Gardens” and Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”. Tickets are available at lyricrep.org
