It’s time for Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre and its 26th season opens on Thursday, July 5th with the delightful premiere of Mozart’s “The Barber of Seville.” Festival founder and director Michael Ballam says that show will be followed by the opening of additionaly productions July 6th and 7th.
Ballam says Into the Woods, Amazing Grace and The Secret Garden will all play in the Ellen Eccles Theatre while You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown will be seen around the corner in the newly-restored Utah Theatre.
Ballam says he received some great news Tuesday about one of the plays, The Secret Garden.
“The great-great granddaughter (Keri Wilt) of the woman who wrote the novel Secret Garden is coming here from San Antonio, Texas,” explains an excited Ballam, “to talk to the cast and give a class on Thursday at the Utah Theatre at 4 p.m.
“It is free of charge to the public. She has some wonderful memorabilia and stories about her grandmother, Frances Hodgson Burnett, who wrote The Secret Garden and A Little Princess and Little Lord Fauntleroy.”
Ballam says this year’s festival also features 154 special events through August 4th, including breakfast with the stars each Saturday, backstage tours, lectures and more.
