Lyric Repertory’s first-ever Shakespeare production opens this weekend

Macbeth is the final of the season’s four plays to join the summer’s repertory schedule at the Caine Lyric Theatre in downtown Logan.
It will run three times this weekend, Thursday-Saturday, July 5-7.

Co-artistic Director Dennis Hassan says it is the story of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and their struggle to get to the top of the power chain:

“We’re taking a little twist, done kind of contemporary, a little bit futuristic but also with a lot of military,” Hassan explains. “You’ll see these witches and the way they interact with Macbeth and spur him forward.

“Of course, Lady Macbeth is the ultimate female villain. She encourages her husband to do all sorts of dastardly things. A lot of famous lines, a lot of famous quotes.”

Hassan says this is the first presentation of Shakespeare in the Lyric Rep’s 51-year history.

Tickets are available at lyricrep.org or at the theater’s box office.
