The second annual Little Bloomsbury Handcart Procession is coming up on Tuesday, July 24th. Chairperson Dr. Brenda Sun says it will be even bigger than last year, which, Sun claims, was the first time handcarts had been part of a Pioneer Parade in Logan.
She says the event begins at 12 noon at 100 West Center Street in Logan and it serves to remind us of Cache Valley’s pioneer heritage.
“Not just in the journey,” Sun explains, “that they took across the plains – a journey of more than 1200 miles on foot, pulling the handcarts and what not – not just with adults but with small children, without food and nourishment, without shoes, without comfort, without friends and family.
“It really reminds us that we, too, in this day and age can do amazing things like the pioneers did before.”
Sun says some handcart pullers and musicians are still needed. Last year there were 20 handcarts and she believes there will be more than that this year. To register, visit littlebloomsbury.org.
