New crisis phones are helping Bear River Mental Health

It would have been great to get more money, but new Bear River Mental Health Executive Director Beth Smith said the funds received this year by the county and state will be used for much-needed purposes.

Smith told members of the Cache County Council last week that the grants received help with the purchase of crisis phones, something she said has been very helpful.

“We had to train our staff,” she explained. “They had to go through a certain type of certification process in order to do this type of treatment.

‘It’s got some real good outcomes tied to it. They studied over 100,000 individuals. It’s really good at slowing down the recidivism of individuals coming through the court system.”

She said her staff works with those from other areas which especially helps when it is necessary to go into homes.
