Education officials in Cache Valley were recently recognized for their efforts and execution in expanding courses emphasizing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (also known as STEM), but more notably the Automated Manufacturing (AM STEM) program. The Bear River Region won the 2018 Utah Excellence in Action award from Utah Career and Technical Education on Wednesday, September 19th.
According to a press release, the Bear River Region was chosen “based on their uniquely inventive and effective approaches to stimulating student learning, offering extensive work-based learning experiences, maintaining strong partnerships with industry and community organizations, and preparing students for post-secondary and career success.”
The Bear River Region AM STEM program is a partnership with the local high schools, Bridgerland Technical College and local industry partners. The program offers a rigorous sequence of courses that combines real-world hands-on experiences in the classroom and experiences in the work place with industry partners.

Now in its third year, the program has created a career pipeline for high school students by preparing them to meet the needs of local businesses. In 2017, 53 students completed the 900-hour program to receive their official AM STEM certificate.
