It may be haunted, but it’s a labor of love

FRANKLIN – What will you do with your old Halloween costumes this year? If you’re the Dunn family from Southeast Idaho, you’ll hang on to them until next Halloween, then find a creative and unique way to turn them into ghoulish lawn decor.

For the past three decades, McKay and Dani Dunn have turned their sprawling county yard at the mouth of Cub River Canyon into a spooky haunted yard. The set up of more than 60 frightening displays is definitely labor intensive, but it’s also a labor of love for the entire family.

The Dunns, their three grown children and younger grandchildren spend about four days organizing, arranging and positioning the nightmarish lawn creatures in hopes of entertaining and frightening those who stop by for a visit.

“If you hear the children go ‘ooh and aah’, it’s worth it,” according to McKay. He says they put in all this effort specifically for the kids. However, if they’re able to scare the pants off children and their parents, even better! Dunn says for many families in the area, some three-generations old, it’s a yearly tradition.

If you are looking for a spooky outing, the home is located at 3085 South 2800 East in Franklin. Be prepared to see everything from skeletons, witches, ware-wolves and even a creepy alien or two.

A warning if you are visiting at night, be on guard, some of the figures lurking in the background are known to be very much alive and in search of unsuspecting prey.
