LOGAN — Police have arrested a 43-year-old Mantua man suspected of sexually abusing a child, while babysitting the young girl at his home.  Ira Mathison was booked into the Cache County Jail Tuesday afternoon.  He is being held on $40,000 bail.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said officers began investigating Mathison after the victim, who is under 10-years-old, reported being molested.  The abuse allegedly occurred over a year ago, while the suspect was babysitting the girl at a trailer park in the southwest part of Logan.

State attorneys have filed two charges against Mathison of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.  The charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.

Hooley said officers interviews Mathison after his arrest.  He is cooperating with the investigation.
