Jalil Brown named Cornerbacks Coach at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – Jalil Brown, an all-Big 12 Conference cornerback who spent six years in the NFL, has been hired as Utah State’s cornerbacks coach, it was announced Wednesday by Aggie head football coach Gary Andersen.

Brown comes to Utah State after spending the 2018 season as the cornerbacks coach at Northern Arizona. At NAU, Brown helped the Lumberjacks’ defense lead the Big Sky Conference and rank 13th nationally in passing defense (179.7 yards allowed per game), while also ranking first in the league and ranking sixth among Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools with 17 interceptions. Brown also mentored a pair of all-Big Sky performers during the 2018 season as Khalil Dorsey was named to the first team and Maurice Davison was named to the third team.

Prior to his one season at Northern Arizona, Brown spent the 2017 campaign at Boise State as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, helping the Broncos win the Mountain West Championship and post a 38-28 victory against Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl. Following the 2017 season, Brown was a defensive analyst for the Broncos before being hired at Northern Arizona.

Brown was a four-year letterwinner at cornerback at Colorado (2007-10), earning honorable mention all-Big 12 Conference honors as both a junior and senior. During his collegiate career, he recorded 167 tackles, to go along with six interceptions and 21 pass deflections. Those six interceptions were tied for the 28th-most in school history at the time, while his 21 pass deflections ranked as the 12th most. A top-notch special teams performer, Brown compiled the sixth most special teams points (65) in school annals, which included 21 tackles. After his senior season, Brown was invited to play in the Senior Bowl in January 2011.

Following his collegiate career, Brown was selected in the fourth round (118th pick) of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. In all, he spent six seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.

Brown graduated from Colorado in 2010 with degrees in sociology and business management.
