Logan man charged with downloading numerous child porn images

LOGAN — A 50-year-old Logan man has been charged with downloading numerous images of child pornography.

Tony M. Teeples was arraigned in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. Prosecutors filed 20 charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, against him. Each charge represents one image or video.

Defense attorney Randall Marshall told the court, Teeples wished to waive his right to a preliminary hearing, where a judge would have determined if there was substantial evidence to bind the defendant over for trial. He explained that they were working on a possible plea deal with prosecutors, and would likely plead guilty to reduced charges.

According to an arrest warrant, investigators received information that Teeples was downloading child pornography in January 2018. They found numerous images on several devices that were owned by the defendant.

While being questioned by investigators, Teeples admitted to accessing the images online. Much of the material discovered during the course of the investigation related to infants and toddlers being abused.

Teeples spoke only briefly during Tuesday’s court appearance. He acknowledged that waiving his preliminary hearing meant he was giving up his right to see the evidence prosecutors had against him. He was ordered to appear again in court February 5.

Court records show in 1989, Teeples was convicted of sexually abusing a minor. He could face up 15-years in prison.
