Green fees at the Logan River Golf course will be higher than originally proposed, thanks in part to a suggestion from a local golfer.
The resolution to approve an increase in fees at the course passed by a 3-2 vote Tuesday night during the Logan City’s Municipal Council meeting.
The golf course loses money each year, so the boost in fees is part of a strategy to help reduce a $150,000-a-year subsidy from city tax payers.
The initial proposal, which was presented to the council, called for a $1 increase in the regular 9-hole greens fee and a $2 increase for 18-holes. The greens fee increase had been discussed previously by council members and agreed upon by the Logan River Golf Course Advisory Board.
However, local golfer Rick Mayor came forward with an alternative plan.
“I’d like to see a $2 increase per nine,” he said. “When you compare Logan River’s greens fee to other courses across the state, I believe we have some room.”
Three of the council members liked Mayor’s idea and adjusted the proposal to increase the 9-hole greens fee by $2 and the 18-hole greens fee an additional $4.
Council Chairman Jeannie Simmonds voted against the new fee increase.
“I only voted no because I believe that the golf course advisory board brought forward a recommendation,” she said. “I feel like if we want them to do their job, we need to respect what they decided.”
“I have some discrepancies on the rates,” said Councilman Jess Bradfield, who also voted against the new rate proposal. “I have nothing against the golf course,” he said. “My hope is that we can save the golf course and make it work effectively.”
The resolution also includes increases in a driving range season pass, regular punch pass and regular season pass. Seniors and juniors will also be paying more. The fee increases go into effect on April 1st.
I was wondering if you can tell me how much the junior golf is going up to? My grandchildren really enjoy the junior lessons and it is what I usually give them as a gift for Easter but if you can let me know how much, I can start saving for their Easter gifts. Also can you let me know how much a golf lesson is? Thank you.
Hi Pam,
The junior 9-hole rate increases by $1…..the 18-hole rate by $2.
The junior punch pass increases from $150- $160
The Junior season pass increases from $250-$300
If you are getting your grandchildren the punch pass or the season pass, buy it BEFORE April 1st…..that’s when the new prices take affect.
I am not sure how much they charge for golf lessons, it all depends on the Pro and what his rate is.
When my children were younger, i would put them in a group lesson in the beginning and then individual lesson as they became better. Have them spend LOTS of time at the driving range!
Good luck!
