LOGAN — A 35-year-old Logan man has confessed to committing a string of burglaries over the last 18-months. David W. England admitted to stealing more than $20,000 in valuables in three burglary cases in Logan, one in North Logan and one in the county.

England appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to four counts of burglary, one count of theft, and one count of unlawful use of a credit card, all third-degree felonies; along with two misdemeanors. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped 30 remaining charges against him.

Police first began investigating England after a neighbor reported that someone had broken into their attached garage and stolen a bike helmet and cooler. Two weeks later, he pulled up alongside two detectives, sitting inside a police vehicle, and asked them what they were doing in his neighborhood.

The detectives told England that he and his vehicle both matched the description of a suspect in a series of home burglaries and the theft of several high-dollar bicycles, rock climbing gear, and other outdoor equipment.

England first denied any knowledge of the crimes. He said he was searching the neighborhood himself looking for three juveniles that he claimed to have seen going through vehicles and garages.

Police later obtained a warrant to search England’s truck, where they found several of the stolen items. While interviewing him, he admitted to entering the residences and taking some of the valuables.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Cache County deputy attorney Barbara Lachmar said part of the plea deal includes the agreement that the defendant will pay back all of the victims.

England spoke only briefly. He waived his right to a trial and told the court he understood the conditions of the deal.

Judge Brian Cannell scheduled sentencing for April 23.

England is currently out of jail after posting bail. He could face up to five-years in prison.

If you are going to report on a story, please make sure you are reporting accurate information.
David wasn’t living in Logan or even Utah prior to July 2018. He was working for a company in which he worked out of state most of the year. The crimes he is charged with took place over a period of a few weeks and he never denied any of his actions. These are just a couple of errors in your reporting. I am sure there are others. Please report on the facts and if you don’t have the facts you shouldn’t be writing the story.
