Construction crews are partially closing a busy stretch of roadway for several days west of Amalga. The closure is along Sam Fellow Road, between Benson and Newton.
Roy Hathaway, ground crew lead with the Cache County Road Department, explained that the closure will be Monday through Friday so crews are able to replace four water culverts underneath the asphalt. The closure will only be during the day along a mile-and-a-half stretch of the road.
“So, approximately 4800 West and SR-218, all the way down to 3800 North and Sam Fellow Road, which is equivalent to about 3800 West,” explained Hathaway.
Crews will be detouring all traffic onto SR-218 and then along 2400 West to Airport Road. They will also accommodate residents who live along the construction zone, providing them limited access.
Hathaway said the closure will be from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is expected to last five days. The road will be open during the night though, when crews are not working.
“There probably won’t be some asphalt put back down until the latter part of the construction project. It will be open through the nighttime. So, if you do travel through, just use caution; there might be a few bumps.”
Motorists are asked to watch out for construction crews through the area and obey the detour signs.
Hathaway said they hope to have the project done early and reopen the road before Friday night’s deadline.
