LOGAN — A 28-year-old Salt Lake City man was arrested after Utah Highway Patrol troopers allegedly found him engaging in sex with a teenage boy, while parked along the highway in Sardine Canyon. Crisoforo Najera was booked into the Cache County Jail Tuesday afternoon. He is being held without bail.
Court records show Najera was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, appearing by video from jail. He was charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony; and lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.
According to an arrest report, the UHP trooper spotted a vehicle parked along US-89/91 near the Big Curve Tuesday afternoon. Believing that the occupants may be experiencing engine trouble, he pulled up behind the vehicle and found Najera and the boy engaged in sexual activity.
During Thursday’s arraignment, prosecutors asked the court to refuse bail for Najera. They claimed that he was a flight risk and might try to flee the area if released. He is also on an immigration hold.
Judge Thomas Willmore granted prosecutor’s request. He ordered Najera to appear again in court Tuesday morning.
