Your four-legged friends are now free to roam off-leash at a number of parks around the Logan area.
Logan City recently passed a one-year pilot program to allow dogs in certain city parks. City leaders and volunteers spent the last month cleaning up the parks and installing equipment in preparation for the program, which officially begins April 15.
Russ Akina, Parks and Recreation Manager for Logan City, said he hopes the program is a success.
“I think that having a place where they can go off-leash as opposed to what we’ve had in place is a big help,” said Akina. “We trust that everyone will be responsible park patrons both for those who have dogs and for those who don’t, but want to enjoy the park as well.”
The sites include:
Jens Johansen Park, 850 East 100 North
Jones Neighborhood Park, 400 West 625 North
Kilowatt Park, 331 South 300 West
Logan Meadows Park, 350 South 600 West
Pioneer Parkway, 165 East Poplar Avenue
Ray Hugie Hydro Park, Northside of US 89 at Canyon Road
Logan Service Center East Lawn Area, 810 West 600 North
The pilot program sites include four parks that have playgrounds, one pavilion, and all sites are either in proximity or connected to a city trail.
What about on-leash parks for dogs? I’m afraid the other dogs will attack my dog on the leash.
The Pilot Program was passed with the exception that Rendezvous Park West Pond Area, 1500 South US 89-91, was
removed from the list. The fenced dog park at Rendezvous Park is the only off-leash area for that park: “ACTION. Motion by Vice Chair Anderson seconded by Councilmember Jensen to
amend Resolution 19-11 to exclude Rendezvous Park, West Pond Area from the list
of sites for the 12-month pilot program as presented. Motion carried unanimously.” https://www.loganutah.org/DRAFT%20Minutes%2019March5.pdf
Horrible idea. I would bet big money that a kid playing is going to be attacked by a pit
Seriously a pit…other dogs attack too.
My pit is super nice and cuddly and so playful.
I’d be more afraid of you than any pit.
Any dog can be mean. It’s all how you you love them…wow
Well, ya just ruined it for the humans who want a summer nap under a shade tree!
Who in the world passed this ridiculous “pilot”. So now I need to leave the park to give space to dogs? I’m terrified with big dogs coming next to me or my kids.., also I worry to have a big dog coming towards our little dog. This is totally irrelevant. If people want their dog leash free go to a dog park!!
If I started a proposition to require certified training for any breed who has attacked (more than a simple bite) a human in the last decade in cache valley. How many people do you think would support/help the project?
Don’t forget there’s also the Cache Humane Society fenced dog park on City property: https://www.cachehumane.org/announcements/dog-park/
