LOGAN — A 28-year-old Logan man has been ordered to jail for sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl last summer. Daniel Henshaw kept his head down as deputies took him into custody to begin his sentence.
Henshaw appeared in 1st District Court Monday morning. He previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
Henshaw expressed remorse, explaining that he wanted everyone to know how deeply and truly sorry he was. He said, “I broke the sacred trust of my family.”
Police report that after Henshaw molested the girl in June 2018, he became disturbed by his actions and went to see a therapist. The counselor informed him that he was required by law to report the incident. He encouraged the defendant to call police himself, which he did.
During Monday’s sentencing, defense attorney Shannon Demler said his client did something terribly wrong but has tried to do everything to fix the situation. He explained that Henshaw was continuing to work with counselors and religious leaders to overcome his sex addictions.
Judge Thomas Willmore expressed disgust with the case and said he was disappointed that prosecutors allowed Henshaw to work out a plea deal for a lesser charge. He explained that cases like this, where the defendant was a person of trust to the victim, deserved a prison sentence.
Speaking to Henshaw, Willmore said, “If you are such a religious man, there should have been something screaming at you that this wasn’t right.” He ordered him to serve 210-days in jail and then be placed on probation for at least three-years.
Henshaw was given work release and credit for the one-day he previously served behind bars. He will also have to register as a sex-offender for the rest of his life.
Looking at what appears to be this guy’s LinkedIn profile, he was hired at Nanobebe only two years after being convicted of sexually abusing a 3 year old child and was on the sex offender registry? Hired to a company who caters to children? If the same, did he have access to customers’ baby monitors in his duties?
