This is the year for municipal elections and that means council seats are up for grabs in cities throughout Cache County.
For most cities, the filing period for those interested in running for offices is only June 3 through June 7.
There are three open seats on the Logan Municipal Council. The terms of Tom Jensen, Herm Olsen and Jeannie Simmonds are all expiring. Municipal council members serve four-year terms and are elected at-large.
City Recorder Teresa Harris says if you are interested in running for a council seat you need to stop by her office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to fill out the necessary paper work. There is no filing fee.
There will be three council seats open in Hyrum, North Logan and Providence; all four-year terms. Providence also has one, 2-year term council seat open.
Other cities in the county will be holding municipal elections this fall with filing deadlines June 3 – 7.
If necessary, the Primary Election date is Tuesday, August 13 and the General Election date is Tuesday, November 5.
Rather than a Primary Election, Hyde Park City holds a nominating convention. The convention is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 at the Hyde Park City Offices.
If you are interested in running for the three available council seats, you must be nominated at the convention and file a Declaration of Candidacy in person with the Hyde Park City Recorder June 1 through June 7.
