It’s an up-and-coming sport that a lot of people may not know too much about. It’s Water Polo and on KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday, the guests were members of the local Kraken Water Polo team, including Porter Frandsen, Beck Christiansen, Mason Frandsen, Danya Sadler and assistant coach Jared Garlick. Porter explained what you can compare the sport to.
“A lot of people like to compare it to a mix of basketball, swimming and soccer. Rules are similar to soccer, but you obviously don’t use your feet. So, that’s where basketball comes in, I guess. And obviously it’s in a pool so there’s swimming,” he explained.
Danya talked about what teams they compete against.
“We compete all over the place. Bear River has their own team, so we compete with them. We play with teams down in Salt Lake. We had a tournament this last season down in Cedar City with a ton of different varsity water polo teams from all over, like even in Vegas,” she said.
The team members said it’s a real fun sport and they are looking for more players, including female players, as they presently do not have any girl teams.
