Bear River Health Department issues “Walk It Out” challenge

“Walk It Out” is the Bear River Health Department’s invitation in June to get outside and move around. Health Promotion Specialist Karlie Kola said the goal is increased physical activity in the community.

“Studies show, it decreases a variety of chronic conditions,” Kola explained. “It helps with mental health issues, anxiety and depression specifically. It helps to reduce those risks. So, our objective was to get people out walking to improve their health.”

She said registration is easy at BRHD.org and those who register may pick up a free pedometer at the health department to help track their miles.

“Then, weekly we will send out e-mails and you can track your miles on a paper or on your fitness tracker and you submit those miles weekly to be entered into a prize drawing.”

Kola said this event is free and in addition to the chance to win weekly prizes there are bonus challenges each week.
