John LeMoyne Watts

December 21, 1938 – June 5, 2019

John LeMoyne Watts, 80, of Sunset, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2019, after a brief illness. John was born on December 21, 1938, in Logan, Utah, to Austin LeMoyne Watts and Rachel Emeline Young. He grew up in Cache Valley as the oldest of nine siblings and graduated from Logan High School. From 1959-1961 he served in the West Central States mission. He spoke fondly of his mission experience throughout his life. John married the love of his life, Linda, on June 13, 1963.

John worked at Hill Air Force Base for 25 years. Afterward he worked for another 15 years with Sunplay Pools before enjoying retirement.

John was active in the community and loved scouting. He earned a silver beaver award early in his life and served in scouting until the very end. Hundreds of boys were blessed by his leadership and dedicated service. He lived by the motto: “Do a good turn daily.”

John loved the history of mountain men and attended dozens of rendezvous over the years. He tanned hides in the backyard and met regularly with friends to craft mountain man gear. His mountain man buddies knew him as “Flint Striker,” and they enjoyed a close friendship that brought him great happiness.

John loved the gospel of Jesus Christ more than anything in life. No one could be in his presence for long without hearing his testimony and his joy over missionary work, indexing, and serving. He loved to study the gospel and took great pleasure in the “Come Follow Me” curriculum.

He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Linda Joyce Olsen Watts and his four children: Maren Jill (Mike) Farmer, Nolan John Watts, Jeffrey Allen (Linda) Watts, and Janette Watts.
