Utah legislators have been looking at ways for getting additional money for the stat; that’s been the impetus behind efforts behind the Tax Reform Task Force. One issue that has been studied has to do with business tax loopholes. On KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday, Patrice Schell of Voices For Utah Children said the topic is quite complex.
“In fact, we have a policy paper that has highlighted a little bit of some of the corporate and business loopholes,” Schell explained, “but only in the briefest mention because all we know is that there are quite a few exemptions out there. The governor’s office and the legislative fiscal analyst office have identified some exemptions that we can look at to get businesses to pay their fair share.”
She said their hope is with task force discussions these issues will be brought out including sales tax and other taxes that disproportionately impact low to middle income families. You can find out more about Voices For Utah Children at utahchildren.org
