Child porn case dropped against former Logan man

LOGAN — After more than four-years of delays, a judge has dropped the child pornography case against Jeffrey L. Detton. The 33-year-old former Logan resident was suspected of downloading child porn on his cell phone.

The criminal case was closed by Judge Brian Cannell in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon. Defense attorneys had previously filed a motion to dismiss the charges because of lack of evidence.

Court records show, prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss all 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, against Detton. The charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning the case could be refiled in the future.

In March 2015, the case and an arrest warrant were originally filed against Detton. He wasn’t arrested until August 1, 2017, when he was found living in Riverton.

The case got caught up in delays after the phone was sent to a forensics lab for analysis.
