Nina Pearl Bell Nielsen

April 1, 1943 – July 12, 2019 – (age 76)

Nina Pearl (Bell) Nielsen passed away on July 12, 2019 at the Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah. She was born on April 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alma Chase and Lovina Pearl (Molten) Bell.

Nina grew up in Salt Lake City. She graduated from West High School in 1961, and during her high school years, she actively competed in debate. She won “Girls State” debate and also won several speech competitions.

She became Queen of both the “Postmen Beauty Contest” and “Letter Carriers Queen Contest”. From the “Letter Carriers Queen Contest”, she won a ten-week charm and modeling course. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life. She earned all of her young women’s awards, graduated from seminary in 1960, and became president of the “Gleamers” at the age of 18.

She loved working at “Brighton’s Girls Camp” in Brighton, Utah where she learned the famous Nina “Old Suzanna” song.

Nina was sealed to Reed Meyerhoffer Nielsen Jr. on November 8, 1963 in the Salt Lake City Temple by President Spencer W. Kimball “For All Eternity”. They were happily married for 55 and 1/2 years. Nina and Reed completed courses in Institute where they received the “Better Teaching in the Church” award. She served as a faithful wife, an honorable mother/homemaker, and a respectable example of the good Samaritan to all who came in contact with her.

She enjoyed outdoor adventures. She had a passion for camping, cooking (including her famous dutch oven cakes and delicious homemade chocolate/candy), crafting, flower arrangements, gardening, genealogy, girls camp, horse trips, missionary work, sewing, and the list goes on. She worked at Low-cost Drug in Logan, Utah while Reed went to school, and she always supported her husband as he provided for their family.

She was a life-long learner and inspiration to others. She followed her husband faithfully around the world, and she served multiple missions with her sweetheart. Their love and companionship has been an example of an eternal marriage that we all hope to achieve.

Nina was preceded in death by her father Alma Chase Bell, her mother Lovina Pearl (Molten) Bell, her siblings Naoma, Lyla (Abb), Ben, Bill, Norman, and her daughter Tammiann. We are sure her reunion with them was with great joy.

Nina is survived by her spouse Reed Meyerhoffer Nielsen Jr. of Paradise, Utah; her children Greg (Lori), Deborah, Jon, Michelle (Kevin), Naomi (Caesar), Darin, Robin (Kimberly), Jeffery (Michelle), and Melece (Wade). Although she has gone before us and we miss her dearly, we know that she is in a better place watching over us.

Memorial services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Paradise 3rd Ward building, 9060 South 200 West, Paradise, Utah 84328.

The viewing will be held Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00pm and Friday, July 19, 2019 from 9:00 – 10:30am. Both viewings will be held in the Relief Society room where Nina’s family will be greeting friends and relatives.
