LOGAN — Police have detained a man and woman suspected of stealing valuables from a Logan hotel last month. Kyle A. Lewis and Stormi J. Schweppe are both being charged with burglary, a second-degree felony; and theft, a third-degree felony.
According to a police affidavit, Logan City officers responded to a burglary at the Days Inn on June 17. The alleged victim claimed that Lewis, a 24-year-old Logan man, and Schweppe, a 23-year-old Smithfield woman, were with him earlier in the day. The three had gone to a department store to buy sodas. While there, the alleged suspects said they forgot something in the victim’s hotel room and left to retrieve it.
The victim said that when he returned to his room his belongings were gone. Video surveillance later showed Lewis and Schweppe enter the room and leave with the items.
As police were gathering evidence, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle driven by Lewis. Inside the car, he found the property reported to be stolen from the hotel room. The vehicle was also determined to be stolen.
Lewis was booked into the Cache County Jail where he is being held on $17,680 bond.
On Wednesday, Police asked for the public’s help locating Schweppe. They later reported she had been found and taken into custody for questioning.
Court records show Schweppe has multiple other convictions of burglary and theft. Lewis also facing another case of tampering with a witness.
