LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan man has confessed to molesting a toddler. Andrew J. Oakeson accepted a plea deal that will likely send him to prison.
Oakeson appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. Three other charges against him were dropped by prosecutors as part of the plea agreement.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray told the court that Oakeson molested the victim, who is under 2-years-old, multiple times in March and June. He would touch and engage in oral sex with the toddler, while viewing child pornography on his cell phone. The girl was acquainted with the suspect, who was considered to be a person of trust to her.
Murray explained that Oakeson disclosed the crimes to a therapist, who reported it to the Department of Child and Family Services. He later admitted to the allegations, when questioned by police.
Oakeson cried as Murray described the details of the crime in court. He later lowered his head and wiped tears away from his eyes.
Judge Brian Cannell explained to Oakeson that the felony charge he had admitted to carried a mandatory prison sentence of between six-years-to-life in prison. He also scheduled sentencing for September 17.
Oakeson is being held in the Cache County Jail on $150,000 bail.
